Health Struggles and Public Support

Sweet’s health took a sharp decline when he suffered a fall while walking alone, which he couldn’t remember. Doctors later discovered two brain bleeds, leading to his admission to the ICU and subsequent placement in a memory care facility. The monthly cost of his care exceeded $10,000, a financial burden that Marlene sought to alleviate by launching a GoFundMe campaign. The outpouring of support from fans was overwhelming, with the campaign surpassing its $50,000 goal and ultimately raising nearly $94,000. Additionally, the Mattel Foundation contributed $5,000 to assist in Sweet’s care.

Early Life and Career

Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Roger Sweet graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, before pursuing further design studies at the Institute of Design in Chicago, Illinois.
