In a move that has drawn both criticism and support, Democratic candidate Mallory McMorrow announced that she has removed thousands of posts from her X account. The purge, revealed by CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski, includes a string of tweets that were widely seen as hostile toward Michigan, the state she is now campaigning to represent in the U.S. Senate.

The Twitter Purge and Its Timing

McMorrow’s decision to delete a large portion of her social media history came one year after the New York Post published a series of her controversial X posts. The timing of the purge—just weeks before the primary election—has raised questions about the candidate’s strategy and transparency. According to Kaczynski, the candidate’s spokesperson, Hannah Lindow, said the removal of tweets dating back to before 2020 is “pretty standard for candidates.” The spokesperson also clarified that McMorrow’s move to Michigan was a gradual process that wasn’t finalized until 2016, which explains why she continued to vote in California until that year.
