In the world of reality television, few figures have mastered the art of the headline quite like Spencer Pratt. Known for his role as the ultimate antagonist on MTV’s The Hills, Pratt has recently pivoted his attention toward a much larger stage: the race for Mayor of Los Angeles. However, his transition from reality star to political candidate has hit a significant snag, resulting in a public standoff with CBS News that has left both fans and political observers questioning the boundaries between journalism and campaign optics.
The Allegations: A Political Sideshow?
The controversy ignited when Pratt took to X (formerly Twitter) to launch a scathing critique of CBS. The reality star alleged that the network had effectively collaborated with the PR team of current Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to turn his recent interview into a “hit piece.” According to Pratt, the interview—which took place at his Pacific Palisades property—was edited in a way that framed his campaign as a “sideshow” rather than a legitimate political endeavor.
Pratt’s frustration was palpable. He didn’t just stop at accusing the network of bias; he also took aim at Mayor Bass, criticizing her administration’s response to the 2025 Pacific Palisades fires. Pratt, who has built his brand on being a provocateur, framed the situation as a coordinated effort by established political figures to undermine his unconventional run for office. He went as far as to declare that if he were to win the mayoral race, CBS would be permanently blacklisted from his administration, stating, “They won’t hear a peep from me for eight years.”
