Reality TV personality and political newcomer Spencer Pratt has responded to comedian Hannah Einbinder’s public criticism of his Los Angeles mayoral campaign, escalating a heated exchange that highlights the city’s deepening political divide. The back-and-forth between the two public figures reflects broader tensions over wealth, privilege, and political alignment in one of America’s most influential cities.

Pratt’s Defense: A Call for Change Amid ‘Elite’ Criticism

Pratt, 42, took to social media to directly address Einbinder’s remarks, framing his campaign as a response to what he sees as the failures of incumbent Mayor Karen Bass and City Attorney Nathan Rabin. His post included a pointed critique of Einbinder’s appearance at a recent LGBTQ+ cinema event, suggesting she was disconnected from everyday voters.

“She says from a literal red carpet, surrounded by armed security, completely insulated from the horrors on our streets that Angelenos and their kids have to suffer through every day,” Pratt wrote via X on Friday, May 29. “I’m glad she doesn’t have to suffer the consequences of Karen [Bass] and Nithya’s [Raman] failures, but she’s in an elite minority and the rest of us want change.”

The comment underscores Pratt’s strategy of positioning himself as an outsider challenging the political establishment, despite his celebrity status. His campaign has gained attention for its unconventional approach, including endorsements from high-profile figures and a focus on public safety and crime reduction.

Einbinder’s Critique: Trump Endorsement and Democratic Values

Hannah Einbinder, 31, countered Pratt’s narrative at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television in Los Angeles, where she called out his mayoral ambitions during a red carpet interview with Variety. Her criticism zeroed in on Pratt’s endorsement by former President Donald Trump, arguing that it represents a troubling shift in Democratic politics.

“There’s a lot of wealth in this city and I think that there are a lot of people who masquerade as Democrats or people on the left, but really, money is their key issue and that’s what lead them to vote for people like Spencer Pratt — who is endorsed by Donald Trump,” Einbinder told Variety’s Marc Malkin. “It’s important to resist that.”

Einbinder’s remarks tap into ongoing debates about the intersection of celebrity culture and politics, particularly in liberal strongholds like Los Angeles. Her comments also reflect concerns within the LGBTQ+ community about Pratt’s alignment with Trump, who has made controversial statements on various social issues.

The LA Mayoral Race: A Battle for the City’s Future

The Los Angeles mayoral race has become a focal point for broader national conversations about governance, crime, and political ideology. With Mayor Karen Bass facing re-election pressure, the race has attracted attention from across the political spectrum. Pratt’s campaign, while still in early stages, has generated buzz due to his celebrity status and Trump endorsement.
