Billy Joel’s ex-manager, Irwin Mazur, is pushing back against accusations that the upcoming biopic about his time managing the singer is defamatory. In a recent interview with TMZ, Mazur clarified that the film’s script was never intended to harm Joel’s reputation, instead focusing on their early collaboration during Joel’s formative years with The Hassles before his rise to fame.
Mazur’s Defense of the Biopic’s Intent
Mazur, who discovered Billy Joel in 1966 and managed him through his early career, emphasized that the film is a tribute to their partnership. He stated that the script highlights the challenges and triumphs of managing a young artist before Columbia Records signed Joel in 1973.
