The shocking murder of James Handy, a beloved actor known for his role in the 2022 blockbuster ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ has taken a new turn with the release of video footage allegedly showing the suspect leaving the crime scene. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has identified the suspect as Michael Gledhill, 44, the son of Handy’s girlfriend. The video, obtained by FOX 11 Los Angeles, appears to capture Gledhill walking away from the scene of the fatal stabbing before returning to the home where Handy was found dead.
The Tragic Incident and Initial Response
On the morning of the incident, Handy was discovered unconscious outside his Los Angeles residence with a severe stab wound to his chest. He was rushed to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed that the 68-year-old actor had no known history of violence or criminal activity prior to this event. The LAPD responded swiftly, launching an investigation that led to the arrest of Gledhill, who was booked into the LAPD-Valley jail on suspicion of murder. He is currently being held on a $2 million bond, with no motive officially disclosed.
The video footage, reportedly from a Ring doorbell camera, has sparked widespread attention. It shows Gledhill walking along a sidewalk near a neighbor’s home shortly after the murder. Investigators believe the timing of the footage aligns with the moment he left the scene. The clip has been described as a critical piece of evidence, though law enforcement has not yet confirmed its role in the prosecution’s case.
