Eighty-four-year-old Nancy Guthrie stepped outside her quiet Tucson home on the morning of February 1, 2026, and vanished. In the weeks since, the case has moved from a local missing-person report to a national story that has even pulled her daughter, Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, away from the studio lights and into an agonizing vigil.

Authorities have chased down hundreds of tips, released grainy surveillance clips, and pleaded for public help, yet they still cannot answer the question that haunts the family: Where is Nancy?

Timeline of a Disappearance: From Ordinary Morning to National Headlines

Police say Nancy’s last confirmed contact was a 7:18 a.m. text to a neighbor about borrowing a gardening tool. When the neighbor arrived an hour later, the front gate was ajar, Nancy’s phone was on the foyer table, and her coffee mug sat half-full on the porch railing. By nightfall, her family had filed a missing-person report, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department launched what would become one of the largest searches in southern Arizona history.

Day 3: Search dogs tracked Nancy’s scent to the edge of the driveway, where it stopped abruptly—an indication she may have entered a vehicle.

Day 8: The FBI joined the case after technicians discovered that two security cameras had been disabled by someone who knew exactly where to grab the lenses to avoid leaving fingerprints.

Day 10: A doorbell-camera clip, partially corrupted, was painstakingly rebuilt from backed-up cloud fragments. It shows a figure in black gloves, face obscured by a neoprene mask, reaching toward the lens. That same night, Sheriff Mark Napier told reporters, “We are treating this as an abduction. The level of planning involved suggests this was not a random act.”

Day 15: The first formal press conference with Savannah Guthrie at her side. Visibly shaken, Savannah said, “We refuse to give up hope. Somebody knows something, and we beg you to come forward.”

Day 30: A volunteer horseback search party found a torn piece of fabric that DNA testing later confirmed was from Nancy’s bathrobe. The scrap was located 11 miles south of her home, near a desolate stretch of Interstate 19, breathing new life into the investigation.

Day 54 (present): Despite more than 1,100 tips, 40 square miles of desert scoured by drone, and a $250,000 reward, Nancy remains missing.

What the Surveillance Footage Reveals—and What It Doesn’t

The recovered video is only 18 seconds long, but it has become the centerpiece of the investigation. According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the individual appears to be between 5’8
