Ted Lasso is officially returning for a fourth season, bringing fans closer to the beloved AFC Richmond team. After Season 3 concluded in 2023, many assumed the Emmy-winning comedy would end there. However, Apple TV+ surprised fans by renewing the show, with filming beginning in July 2025. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, the series is set to shift its focus to a new setting and storyline.

Season 4 Confirmed and Filming Begins

Apple TV+ confirmed the renewal in 2024, reversing earlier speculation that the show would conclude after Season 3. Jason Sudeikis, who stars as Ted Lasso and co-created the series, will return as both actor and executive producer. He expressed excitement about the new season, saying, “We all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap.’ In season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

The fourth season will follow Ted returning to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s team. This marks a significant shift from the men’s team storyline that defined the first three seasons. The move aligns with the show’s themes of growth and reinvention, offering a fresh perspective on the AFC Richmond universe.

What to Expect in the New Season

The upcoming season will explore new dynamics as Ted navigates coaching a women’s team. While the exact plot details remain under wraps, the show’s creators have hinted at emotional storytelling and character development. Brendan Hunt, co-creator and actor (Roy Kent), Joe Kelly, and Bill Lawrence are also returning as executive producers, ensuring the show’s signature blend of humor and heart.

Earlier rumors suggested the show might end after Season 3. In August 2023, director Declan Lowney told The Hollywood Reporter that the series was “over—for now,” adding, “It’s going to be two or three years before anything happens—if anything happens.” However, the renewal proves those speculations were premature. Jason Sudeikis previously stated in 2021 that the three-season arc was intentional, but the new season opens doors for further storytelling.

The Show’s Uncertain Future

Despite the renewal, the future of Ted Lasso remains ambiguous. Sudeikis previously emphasized that the original story was designed to conclude after three seasons. “The story that’s being told—the three-season arc—is one that I see, know, and understood,” he told Entertainment Weekly in 2021. “I’m glad that they are willing to pay for those three seasons. As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don’t know.”

However, the renewal suggests the creators are open to exploring new chapters. The shift to a women’s team could introduce fresh characters and storylines, potentially expanding the show’s impact. Fans are eager to see how the AFC Richmond universe evolves, especially with the team’s relocation to Kansas City in the new season.
